Our guests at The Park are always greeted by two faces. One belongs to a friendly member of our team, and the other, to Babe Paley. Horst P. Horst’s striking photograph of the New York City socialite was taken for Vogue in 1946, where she worked as a fashion editor. (She left the following year when she married William Paley, the founder of CBS.)
Her elegant insouciance—she was among the first to tie Hermès scarves to her handbags—has made her a style icon ever since. Now, she’s back in the news yet again. Her granddaughter Belle Burden, another fixture on New York’s social scene as well as a pro bono immigration lawyer, recently published a gripping memoir, Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage, about the aftermath of her husband’s announcement, during the pandemic, that their union was over.
It’s the talk of Manhattan, so to join the conversation, pick up a copy at Daunt Books. Alternatively, listen to the audiobook on Spotify Premium while walking through Hyde Park and digest it all over a few cocktails at The Park.
